Baltimore City Council Member bemoans Gestapo Tactics
Baltimore City Council Member Jack Young was evicted from a closed police meeting, invoking the Gestapo to describe how he was removed.
Veteran Baltimore City Councilman Jack Young (D-12) expressed outrage Thursday afternoon after he was escorted out of a police COMSTAT meeting against his will.
The weekly meeting, held at police headquarters to review crime trends and statistics, is regularly attended by the mayor and other city officials, as well as police command staff and supervisors from all nine police districts. But Young said Police Commissioner Frederick Bealefeld asked him to leave immediately after he arrived Thursday afternoon.
“He walked me out and said I needed to give them advance notice,” said Young in a phone interview Thursday afternoon.
“But I’m outraged. This is Gestapo tactics.”

I’m not sure this really even particularly a good analogy, leaving aside the problematic association with the Holocaust that all Analogies That Cannot Be Topped necessarily generate. Gestapo analogies, even the 99.9% that are inappropriate, should reference an investigative police force that is doing acts that would be patently illegal in other societies. Perhaps Mr. Young should have invoked the Brown Shirts? It would have been equally inappropriate, but at least it would make more sense…
